Sliding HST doors for terraces, balconies and winter gardens – barrier-free threshold

Sliding doors are growing in popularity thanks to the ability to design large glazed surfaces and their high user comfort.

Sliding doors are gaining popularity thanks to the ability to design large glass surfaces and their high user comfort.

Unlike swing doors, HST systems do not take up space inside the room, and thanks to flat, barrier-free thresholds, comfort can be even higher — both in everyday use and in buildings with increased accessibility requirements.

Threshold compliant with DIN 18040 — real barrier-free access

It has no sharp edges or breaks. After installation (in the new-construction variant), it is practically flush with the floor, and the well-designed placement of the running rail ensures that the passage remains comfortable and safe even for the most demanding users: people using wheelchairs, crutches or walkers, as well as children and caregivers.
This solution is recommended, among others, for hospitals, nursing homes, kindergartens, public buildings, as well as hotels, restaurants and airports, where both accessibility and the ease of transporting luggage or goods on carts are essential.

Variants and applications

  • New construction — threshold with an insulating substructure, almost flush with the floor after installation.
  • Renovations — modernization/renovation thresholds that improve comfort without significant interference with the existing floor.
  • System compatibility — compatible with HS/HST hardware and PVC and timber systems (including Salamander, Gealan, Profine, Rehau, Veka, Schüco, Aluplast, Inoutic).

Key technical data

  • Compliance with the standard: DIN 18040 (barrier-free access)
  • Thermal efficiency: low heat transfer coefficient (energy-optimized design)
  • Substructure: high-load-bearing PET insulation (new-construction variant)
  • Hardware: compatible with every type of HS hardware
  • Choice of threshold: with substructure (NEW) or renovation type (Reno)
  • Materials/systems: PVC and timber; threshold preparation tailored to the customer’s profile

Test results (based on an HST system with an Alumaster threshold and Salamander EvolutionDrive HST profiles)

  • Operating forces: class 1
  • Watertightness: class 9A
  • Air permeability: class 4
  • Wind load: class C2/B2
  • Tests performed at the IFT Rosenheim laboratory

Benefits for the user and the investment

  • Barrier-free threshold — a fully functional solution for HS/HST doors
  • Durability in use — the well-designed geometry of the threshold and the placement of the running rail reduce wear, ensuring stable performance for years.
  • Aesthetics — the smooth, flat form and the absence of breaks ensure a modern look and clean detailing.
  • Tightness — despite its flat design, the threshold combined with the system profile maintains full sealing.
  • Energy efficiency — the PVC and aluminium construction is suitable for low-energy and passive houses.

Complementary elements (optional)

  • Transition profile — recommended for connections with terraces; levels the surfaces, closes and tidies the edge of the cladding.
  • Drainage profile — perfectly matched, it enables effective water drainage in the door area.
  • System doormat — an aesthetic finish that complements the modern look and functionality.

Drzwi HST z progiem bezbarierowym łączą komfort dużych przeszkleń z bezpiecznym przejściem 0,0 mm i pewną szczelnością. To przewidywalne, estetyczne i trwałe rozwiązanie do domów, mieszkań i obiektów publicznych.
