Drop seals - where comfort is needed

Scroll page

In their classic shape, doors have remained almost unchanged through the centuries. The solutions we have today significantly improve their functional properties, adjusting their appearance to current trends. The multitude of solutions on the market offers a wide range of possibilities, allowing to meet all, often extremely strict requirements, as well as individual needs or preferences of users.

Nowadays, especially important criteria when choosing a door are their thermal insulation properties and tightness. One of the biggest challenges of manufacturers when constructing doors is their sealing in the lower part of the sash and around the threshold. The situation becomes even more complicated when we use so-called thresholdless door. Then sash remains a few millimetres above the floor, which raises concerns that this space is not sealed.

At the same time, a non-threshold door is an attractive solution for many customers - due to its safety and conveniency. It will be perfect wherever comfort is valued, i.e. in houses, schools, kindergartens, or where there are elderly people and people with mobility difficulties, e.g. in hospitals or nursing homes.

There are solutions available on the market that allow for sealing the door even in such cases.

Automatic drop seals - principle of operation

One of the solutions is automatic dropping thresholds. These simple sealing devices are designed to bridge the gap between the bottom edge of the door leaf and the floor. Their use significantly reduces noise, prevents air blasts (draft) and light or heat loss.

Automatic drop seals - principle of operation

The insulating properties and tightness of the seals are ensured by a movable seal that works automatically when opening and closing the door leaf. A special button activates and releases the springs that move the silicone seal, pressing it against the floor. This allows the door to be sealed when closed. The seal rises when the door is opened. This solution is perfect wherever there is no conventional threshold. They are especially recommended for interior doors.

Drop seal - advantages of the solution

Drop thresholds should have features ensuring a long time of reliable operation and a positive impact on the ergonomics of door production. The thresholds of the A'Line series, proposed by Alumaster Polska, meet this condition - their failure-free operation endurance is 1,000,000 cycles. They have a cutting range of up to 20 cm (unlike most available on the market with a cutting range of up to 10 cm), thanks to which they allow the door manufacturer to better optimize the warehouse. An extended cutting range translates into better warehouse management.

Moreover, A'line seals have a brass activation button and are equipped with a mechanism with two springs, which guarantees smooth operation of the mechanism. They come in many variants of shape and size, making it possible to use them in virtually any door, regardless of the material or technology of manufacture.

Drop thresholds

This solution is appreciated by many customers in Europe and around the world. A prime example of a country where drop thresholds are widely known and used is Belgium. In Poland, an increasing number of manufacturers (including interior doors) decide to use this solution. In order to be able to provide their customers with a product with top performance parameters and at the same time adjust it to their individual needs - manufacturers are constantly looking for new solutions.

Drop thresholds are perfect for places where traditional threshold solutions are not enough - they will provide comfort in moving around houses, schools and kindergartens. When used in nursing homes and hospitals, they will facilitate the movement of the elderly and people with reduced mobility. They are also an ideal solution in offices and hotel facilities.

Thanks to their simple structure and easy assembly, they are an extremely interesting proposition. They can be used for doors made of PVC, aluminium, wood, and steel.

It is worth remembering that the thresholds perfectly meet the requirements of acoustic-tightness, smoke-tightness, protect against wind and dust entering the room, and facilitate the movement of people with limited movement because they do not constitute an architectural barrier.
